Amish Cooking Class - The Seekers - by Wanda Brunstetter

Amish Cooking Class
The Seekers
by Wanda Brunstetter

I love a good Christian Fiction, one that has a fun or compelling story behind it and infused with lessons and thought-provoking scripture!
So that is just what I get here in this book by Wanda Brunstetter, Amish Cooking Class, Book 1 in The Seekers series.

This book is centered around Heidi Troyer, an Amish woman who happens to be an amazing cook and has some time on her hands.  Her home is impeccable, the yard and garden immaculate, and she is restless for something to do to fill her days while her husband, Lyle, is working at the auction house.  They have been married for eight years, have not been blessed with children, thus Heidi's need for something fun to do.

Heidi's aunt has been giving quilting lessons, which gives Heidi the idea to offer cooking classes.  As one by one students reply, she ends up with a class of five different men and women.

As we meet all the students one by one, we learn their stories, their problems, pains, and needs.  As they learn to cook, they also learn to care about each other.  Each week a new recipe is shared, each recipe comes with a scripture, and each week that scripture is shared it becomes relevant in the story!
Such a great premise for a story and a fun way to see how God answers everyone.  This book contains a little mystery, good food, heartache, friendship and even possibly romance!

Finesse - Restore + Strengthen Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

Finesse
Restore + Strength
Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner

Well, wasn't I excited to be offered the chance at full sized products through BrandBacker of Kendall Jenner's favorite shampoo and conditioner!  Who know the Finesse brand, the one you used in the 80's during high school was still around?  Finesse, it was always a good product, even back then, but for some reason I just forgot about it!
Maybe because I've been busy trying this brand and that brand, spending all kinds of money and time, trying to find the ultimate hair care product for me.

My hair has gone through some changes over the years, back in the 80's of high school my hair was much oilier and much younger, stronger.  Now my hair has developed a dry, stiffer feel, it's thinner, more brittle, and I have to dye away the grey!
So when I saw this product, I am loving the idea that it will strengthen, restore, and moisturize - Yeah!

I immediately parked it in my shower - so I'd be sure to use it right away!  I've been using it ever since!  Wow, to describe how my hair feels after a couple weeks of using Finesse - soft, manageable, shiny, moisturized, and healthy!

Until this campaign I had no idea that this was the shampoo and conditioner of choice of Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner - but now that I have used it, I can see why they are so happy with it.  Celebrity endorsements are not usually my thing because, let's face it, the products they love are usually out of my price range!  Not so here - you can find Finesse in Walgreen's, Walmart, Rite Aid, Kroger and more - Finesse products  have been launched in significantly more stores this year.  And, the best part it's priced at about $1.99 and Walgreen's and Walmart! What A Deal!!  I've been spending 5 to 10 times that amount easily for many products!

The shampoo comes out thick and creamy, not watered down, so you don't need a ton of it to work up some sweet luxurious lather!  I would say a nickel sized amount or less for my shoulder length hair.  And it has a clean, fresh scent.  The conditioner is equally awesome and coats my hair, detangles, and leaves it feeling soft & moisturized without feeling heavy or limp.  My hair has actual body and life!

Finesse hair care products are formulated for dry, damaged, stubborn hair like mine and are infused with proteins to replenish moisture making my hair stronger and healthier.

I am sold on this amazing duo and will continue to use long after this free sample is gone!  Imagine - all this for $1.99 for each!  Incredible!

The Cottage by Michael Phillips

The Cottage
by Michael Phillips

Well, just look at the cover - it calls you to read it!  Grab a good cup of coffee, or in the case of Whale's Reef, a good cup of tea, and enjoy this read!

The Cottage is book two in the Secrets of the Shetlands series by Michael Phillips, you can see my review of book one The Inheritance on a previous post.

I received a copy of this book through the Bloggers program at Baker Publishing/Bethany House in exchange for an honest review and to facilitate this post.  I thank the publisher and the author!

I am a huge fan of the genres of Historical Fiction and Inspirational Fiction and this book is just that.  The entire book has moral, christian, and spiritual lessons weaved seamlessly in to the story.  The novel is an amazing mix of historical and contemporary fiction as it flips back and forth telling the story of the past and the story of the present.  And to understand the present we have to learn about the past.

Loni Ford receives a letter that she is the heir of an island in the Shetland's, Whales Reef, and has also inherited The Cottage.  Her first reaction is to turn down the inheritance and continue on with her life, her job.  But at the urging of her boss, and best friend, she decides to visit the island with the intention of seeing it, then signing the papers to pass the island to the next heir in line.  But, the longer she stays, the more she learns about the island, it's people, it's history.  She is compelled to figure out how she is the heir, what is her connection to the island and it's people, and where she fits in.  Throw in some elements of danger and a protagonist or two, the longing for connections and a link to her unknown family history and you have an awesome story!  So Loni "Alonnah" Ford learns about her past, her history, and then is torn as to what is the right thing to do, for herself and the island.  She learns bits and pieces of her family's past from different people on the island.  She meets David Tulloch, who is the island's Chief and who most of the people on Whale's Reef think should be the rightful heir.  She is surprised at all she can learn from him and that there is more to him than she ever imagined.

What will she decide?  How will David Tulloch react?  What is to become of Whale's Reef?
What about the evil cousin or the oil tycoon?

You'll have to pick up a copy and find out - I know you will enjoy it!

Here is the official summary as found on the Baker Publishing Group's website, which I am permitted to share.

The Cottage

About

Is the Future of Whales Reef in the Hands of an Outsider?
When Loni Ford is informed that she has inherited property in the Shetland Islands, she laughs. She wants nothing more than to sell it and be done with it. But when she arrives in the North Sea enclave, she is stunned to find that "the Cottage" is not at all what she expected, nor is David Tulloch, the man most of the islanders believe to be the rightful heir.

The locals could hardly be more surprised that the heir is a woman--and an American. Loni, in turn, finds the islanders quaint and a bit behind the times. Expecting David to be as provincial as the rest of his clan, she discovers that there is far more to the man than meets the eye. And there is something about the peaceful atmosphere of the place--and the character of its most prominent citizen--that soon gets under her skin.

Beneath the peaceful surface, however, change is threatening the island of Whales Reef. David's cousin Hardy Tulloch, whose claim to the inheritance now in Loni's hands was backed by oil investors, has not been deterred in his aim to control the island. But his co-conspirators have plans of their own, plans that put Loni's very life in danger. . . .
